Student is required to observe discipline and decorous behavior both inside and outside the college and not to indulge in any activity, which will tend to bring down the prestige of the University/college.

1. College Timing is 9.00 a.m to 4.20 p.m. Students should attend all classes regularly and punctually. College bus will leave the campus by 4.30 p.m.
2. Students coming late can enter the class only with the permission of the Head of the respective department and no student is permitted to leave the class without the permission of the Head of the respective department.
3. When students avail leave, prior submission of leave form duly signed by the parent is strictly followed.
4. Students should wear the Identity Card whenever they enter the college campus or else they will not be permitted.
5. With a view to achieve discipline and uniformity among students, uniform is insisted in the campus. Wearing overcoat is a must for Workshop and Laboratory classes as per the safety rules.
6. Students have to submit assignments, record works, home works etc., in time even though they participate in other co- curricular activities of the college.
7. In case of Parents/Guardians meeting is being conducted to discuss various issues of students, it is compulsory for Parents/Guardians to attend without fail. Healthy co-operation in this regard is ever solicited.
8. Students can take part in inter - college competitions, TV/Radio programmes, only after getting the prior permission from the authorities concerned.
9. Strict discipline should be maintained in the College campus. Non-compliance with the guidelines or regulations of the college will be severely dealt with.

All are expected to maintain a very high standard of discipline inside the college campus. Their conduct should be appreciable at all times, at all places and on all occasions.

1. Visitors are strictly not allowed during the Class Hours.
2. If a student is found guilty of indiscipline, the College reserves the right to take disciplinary action against him/her and inform the Parents/Guardians about the action so taken.
3. The students should not loiter in the college premises when the classes are in progress. When they are free, they should make use of the college library.
4. The students are not allowed to form any type of unauthorized union / meeting.
5. No student is allowed to entertain outsiders inside the premises of the college without prior permission from the college authorities.
6. Mobile phones, smoking, drinking alcohols, chewing & taking intoxicants and drugs are strictly prohibited inside the college premises.
7. No student is allowed to pass any derogative remarks or abuse / use filthy language or un-parliamentary words inside the college premises.
8. The management reserves the right to expel from the college any student on grounds of serious irregularity of attendance, insubordination, malpractice in examination or any other act of indiscipline or misconduct. The decision of the college authorities in this regard shall be final.
9. Students are required to maintain not only good academic progress but also high discipline in the campus.
10. Students are advised to be present in the campus 10 minutes before the start of the morning session.
11. Students entering the campus after 9:00a.m have to sign in the late register available with the security. The late register will be submitted to the college office for necessary action.
12. Damaging the college property is punishable. Anybody found involved will be dealt seriously.
13. Damaging desk, bench, electrical item, switch board etc in the class room will lead to penalty for the respective class.

It is the responsibility of the students

• To maintain the campus eco-friendly.
• To maintain dress code.
• Boys are not supposed to wear unnecessary wearing in their ears, neck and hands.
• Not to deface or write anything on the walls / furniture.
• Not to sit on the parapet walls and flight of steps.
• To be punctual for all theory and laboratory classes as well as for guest lectures and meetings.
• To stay till the end of the Meetings/ Seminars.
• To give due respect to prayer song, national anthem, faculty, staff and other elders.
• To extend good hospitality during programmes.
• To maintain a cordial relationship with others especially maintaining harmony in a multicultural environment.
• To conserve energy by switching off fans and lights when not in use.
• To see the college properties are not damaged.
• Not to get involved in ragging if noticed the matter will be informed to the local police station for necessary action (as per the direction of AICTE, Anna University & Government of Tamilnadu)


1. Student’s attendance is given priority in the academic life of the College. “It is imperative that a student secures a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible to appear for the University Examinations at the end of each semester”.
2. Students who are absent on medical grounds should produce a Valid Medical Certificate along with an endorsement letter from the parent/guardian while reporting to the college after recovery from illness.
3. Due to medical reasons if the attendance falls between 65% to 75 %, the ward can submit medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner and may be allowed for the University Examinations. This is applicable only once in their entire course of study.
4. All leave applications must be endorsed by the parents / guardians in case of day scholars and Dy. Warden / Hostel-in-charge in case of hostellers. It must be submitted to the Principal through Class in-charge, Dy.Warden/Hostel-in-charge.
5. The students who get less than 75% of attendance will be informed to the parents immediately at the end of every internal assessment examination. They have to report with the parents and meet the faculty advisor, head of the department for necessary proceedings.
6. The attendance will be monitored on daily basis. Any student who absents himself to the class without prior permission will be suitably penalized.


1. There will be two internal Examinations and one model Examination during each semester to assess the progress of the students.
2. Class test will be conducted in all the subjects and student’s progress will be closely monitored. The College will send the academic performance of the students to the parents/Guardians periodically.
3. No student is allowed to create disturbance in any manner whatsoever inside the examination hall during the examination sessions. If any such report is received from the invigilator, the student will be punished as deem fit, including expulsion from the college without assigning any reason whatsoever.
4. Those who fail in the internal examination, the concerned faculty will conduct the re-test for that student. If the candidate again fails in the re-test, he/she has to bring their parents and will be subjected to intensive coaching classes.
5. Students absent for the test have to write the test apart from the working hours. It is the responsibility to get the time schedule from the faculty concerned.
6. If a student is absent for the test and model examination without permission from the faculty and HOD, stern action will be initiated. Permission will be given only for genuine cases.
7. Progress report of the students will be sent to the parents at the end of every internal assessment test.

Library rules

1. Strict and absolute silence shall be observed in the Library.
2. Students member have to produce their Identity card, while entering the library and write their name, class, time, roll number in the register kept at the entrance.
3. Students are supposed to enter the library in clean dress code.
4. No reader shall take any printed materials inside the Library. Members are requested to keep their belongings at the entrance of the Library. However they are advised not to leave purse, money, credit card and other valuables in the handbag outside the library. These items are liable to be lost.
5. File, personal text book Bags, Big handbags, Raincoat, Jerkin and Casual wears are strictly prohibited inside the library.
6. Student should refrain from scribbling, damaging or tearing the books. Such act will be treated as gross indiscipline, and disciplinary action will be in timed and appropriate action will be taken.
7. Library users are strictly prohibited from taking the borrowed and stamped books again inside the library.
8. Books will be issued to the members only on producing the Book issue card.Max. of 2 books will be issued to every student.
9. Books issued should be returned within 15 days. This period may be renewed for another 15 days provided nobody has reserved for the same book. Students retaining the books without returning beyond 15 days will be levied a fine of Rs.1 per day.
10. Books will not be issued to students on the Book issue Card of staff members.
11. If the due date falls on a holiday for the Library, the next working day will be taken as the due date.
12. Long Absence from the college will not be allowed as an excuse for the delay in the return of books.
13. If any book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the person responsible shall replace it with a new copy or pay double the cost of the recent price and handling charges or as may be decided by the librarian.
14. No sub-lending of books is permitted.
15. Any kind of marking, underlining, clipping of books is absolutely forbidden. Readers shall be held responsible for any damage done to the book belonging to the Library and shall be required to replace such book or pay the value thereof.
16. Under special circumstances, the Librarian may refuse the issue of books or recall the books already issued from any member without assigning any reason thereof.
17. The following conditions are to be followed for the renewal of books.
[i] The book has to be produced in the library for renewal.
[ii] More than one renewal will not be allowed.

18. No remainders will be issued to individuals but consolidated list of defaulters will be displayed in the library notice board.
19. The borrower will be responsible for any loss or non-return of any books issued against his / her original or duplicate Book issue Card.
20. Reference books, Newspapers, Magazines, Journals should not be taken out.
21. New books received or the dust jackets will be on display for a week.
22. The Library may accept donation of manuscripts, books, periodicals etc. from the donors. Such donations once accepted will become the absolute property of the college.
23. Library timing is displayed in the Library Notice Board.
24. Browsing at Library is limited to accessing on-line Subscribed Journals, Text books only.
25. Smoking, chewing chocolates etc. in the library is strictly prohibited.
26. Member should take care of their personal belongings. The library is not responsible for any claim of loss of such articles. However notice will be put if such articles one found in the library.
27. Any infringement of the norms and procedures will render the privilege of admission and borrowing reading materials from library liable to suspension.
28. Before leaving the Library the reader shall leave on the table any books/periodical, which he/she has taken for reference. The same shall not be kept back on the shelf by the reader to avoid misplacement. However the books borrowed from the text book counter have to be returned to the counter

(Any instructions or information to students will be notified on the Library Notice Board as and when required).



1. The hostel is under the direct control of the Principal, who is also the warden and is assisted by a Hostel-in-charge, Dy.Warden and Resident tutor.
2. Application for admission to the Hostel along with medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner must be submitted to the Warden.
3. The right of Admission to the Hostel is reserved. Admission to the Hostel will not be made as a matter of routine and it will be at the discretion of the warden.
4. The allotment of rooms to the applicants will be made by the Warden, Hostel-in-charge / Dy. warden. The hostellers are not permitted to change their rooms once occupied without the written approval from the Dy. warden.
5. Students with chronic medical problems will not be admitted to the Hostel. By chance, if any student with chronic medical problem gets admitted to the Hostel, he/she will be asked to vacate the room immediately, when it is brought to the notice of warden to enable the student to have proper medical care by the parent / guardian.
6. Regular absentees from classes, monthly tests, exams and students scoring less than the minimum pass marks in the monthly tests and the University exams may not be permitted to continue to stay in the hostel. In other words, admission and continued stay in the hostel depend upon academic performance and also on good behaviour and conduct. The warden’s decision is final in this regard.
7. If a student is expelled from the college for any reason he/she should immediately vacate the hostel on the day of expulsion from the college. His / her continuance in the hostel will be treated as unauthorised occupation.
8. Once a student has vacated the hostel and if she/he wishes to rejoin, she/he has to pay the full fees and seek readmission.
9. Student who wishes to vacate the hostel has to report to the warden along with their parents, submit the application duly signed and has to settle all the dues in the college office only then he/she will be permitted to vacate.

General Procedures

1. The hostel rooms are subject to inspection by the college / Hostel authorities to make sure that they are kept neat and tidy and no unauthorized items like liquor, drugs, lethal weapons etc., are kept in the room.
2. The hostellers themselves are personally responsible to safeguard their belongings. They are not advised to keep large amounts of cash or valuables like gold ring, costly wristwatch etc., in their rooms. They should also take care of their purse, calculators, computers and books. In case of theft or loss of any items it will not normally be possible to carry out any investigation. The hostellers are advised to keep their rooms, boxes, suitcases, cupboards, etc., securely locked with good quality locks.
3. If a student wishes to go for outing on medical purpose/shopping or on vacation/leave, she/he has to first submit an undertaking from the Parent/Guardian regarding their willingness to permit their son/daughter for outing. Based on the details furnished in the undertaking form student will be given permission for outing. He/ She have to enter the details in the movement register kept at the entrance of the hostel and obtain gate pass duly signed by Dy.Warden/Hostel-in-Charge/Warden and Manager. Once duly signed by the authorities concerned, the gate pass slip should be handed over to the security at the gate. Also the student should record the time in and out in the movement register kept with the security guard at the entrance of the college and should be properly signed. No hosteller is permitted to stay out of the hostel beyond 8:00 pm in the case of Men's Hostel and 6: 15 pm in the case of Ladies' hostel.
4. The hostel security guard/Dy.Warden has instructions to lock the gate after the stipulated timings as mentioned above. If they have any local relatives with whom they intend to stay during weekends, or if they have any local relatives who would like to visit them in the hostel, the names and addresses of such local relatives, duly authenticated by the parents/ guardians, should be furnished along with the application.
5. At the time of going home, no student should lock any room other than the officially allotted room. Students leaving the hostel after the semester have to hand over the keys compulsorily to the Dy.Warden/Hostel-in-charge. Those who wish to discontinue their stay should leave their rooms and cupboards open.
6. The hostellers will be sent home once in a month.
7. The hostellers are generally discouraged from going out of the hostels during weekends and holidays. However, in extraordinary circumstances, if they want to leave the hostel, written permission has to be obtained as mentioned in clause 3.
8. Students are not allowed to keep vehicles in the hostel.
9. The use of Cell Phones is absolutely prohibited in the hostel campus / STELLA MARYS campus.
10. Students, who wish to have their mobile phones during their journey, should hand over the same to the Dy.Warden/Hostel-in-charge/warden immediately when they reach the hostel and can receive it when they go home.
11. Incase of surprise checking if any student is found to have mobile phone, it will be seized by the authorities concerned and strict action will be initiated. Mobile phones if seized will not be returned back on any account.

12. The hostellers are not allowed to keep air coolers, musical instruments, cassette record players, TV, electric irons or any electrical equipment. Unauthorised possession will lead to confiscation of the goods.
13. The college / hostel authorities will conduct surprise checks periodically and if anyone is found violating the above mentioned rules, disciplinary action will be taken against him/her.


Students who take their guests to dine must obtain prior permission either from the Dy. Warden/Hostel-in-charge/ Warden. They must pay guest charges.

Hostel Discipline

1. Strict silence should be observed between 11:30 pm & 5:30 am.
2. Perfect silence is to be maintained in the hostel premises including rooms, bathrooms, dining halls, corridors, common areas etc., Every student of the hostel should have the civic responsibility that he or she should not be a cause of nuisance, annoyance or disturbance to others.
3. All hostellers have to be present in their respective rooms and keep open the rooms between 8:30 pm &11:30 pm every day to enable the Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge/Resident Tutor to take the attendance.
4. Entry is restricted to the hostellers to enter other rooms than their respective rooms especially during study hours.
5. The hostellers are not permitted to enter into any unnecessary conversation, discussions, quarrel or altercation with the hostel staff. If anyone has any complaint against any employee of the hostel, a written complaint against the person is to be lodged with the Warden.
6. The hostellers shall not waste food, electricity & water. Wastage of food is a national loss. If anyone is found indulging in such wastage, he/she will be asked to vacate the hostel, since wastage causes unnecessary and unavoidable expenditure to others.
7. Smoking is prohibited in the hostel. Gambling in any form such as playing cards (even without money at stake), consumption of alcohol, use of drugs and narcotics and even possession of such things are prohibited. Anyone found indulging in the use of such things will not only be asked to vacate the hostel but also be rusticated from the college.
8. Possession of any lethal weapons or any instrument / contrivance, which is likely to cause physical harm to others, is strictly prohibited.
9. If any hosteller is found indulging in any form of instigation / intimidation / threat to any other hostellers he / she will be asked to vacate the hostel forthwith. In this regard, the decision of the Warden is final and binding on the individual's concerned.
10. Day scholars are not allowed inside the hostel.
11. Celebrating birthday parties inside the hostel is strictly prohibited.
12. Collection of donation for any purpose (Religious / otherwise) is also strictly prohibited.
13. Students are not allowed to play skating rollers and other outdoor games inside the hostel to prevent breakages and accidents. Sliding along the hand rails/rest of stairs and fast running/ climbing down should be totally avoided to prevent accidents.
14. When leaving the rooms for attending classes or for vacation, etc., fans, electrical gadgets, lights etc., should be switched off. Glass windows are to be closed securely.
15. Walking along staircases should be silent, gentle without creating nuisance / noise to fellow hostellers.
16. Students are not allowed to stay in the hostel during the class hours unless the stay is unavoidable due to illness or any other valid reason. In such cases they should collect the permission slip from Dy.Warden/Hostel-in-charge, duly signed by the faculty advisor, Head of the Department & Warden and submit the same to Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge.
17. Hostellers coming to the Hostel after the gate closing hours without prior permission or without valid reason would be seriously dealt with.
18. Clock alarms should be switched off, when not in use. There have been instances when students have set the alarm and gone on long leave, and some of them ringing for hours and spoiling the peace of fellow hostellers.
19. Water should be carefully used and not wasted.
20. Wrong entry, improper / lack of entry in exit register, signing on behalf of another person, tampering with the entries, proxy attendance and misguidance of any nature are punishable. In case of any quarrel between or among roommates it should be reported to the Warden for appropriate action.
21. Violation of any of these rules would result in punitive action and serious violations would be referred to the “Disciplinary Committee". The decision of the committee would however be final.

Mess Timings and Rules

1. All the students of the hostel should take their food in the allotted mess time only.
2. The meal timings are displayed in the dining hall. These timings are to be strictly adhered to. It is not obligatory on the part of the kitchen/dining hall staff to serve the meals outside the prescribed timings.
3. Dining hall furniture like chairs, tables, etc., and utensils like stainless steel tumblers, plates, spoons etc., are not to be taken out of the dining hall. If anyone is found taking these dining hall properties out, he/she will be suitably penalized. 4. The hostel kitchen is strictly "Out of Bounds" for the students.

5. Bringing food from mess to the sick persons in hostels can be done, after getting the written permission from the Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge/ Resident Tutor.

Damages and Recovery

1. Rough handling of dining hall furniture, room furniture or any furniture / property or fittings of the hostel is strictly forbidden.
2. The cost of damages will be recovered in the following manner:
o If any individual or group is identified to have caused the damage, double the cost will be recovered from him/her/group.
o If damage is done in anyone of the rooms and the person(s) is / are not identified then double the cost will be recovered from the room-mates collectively.
o If a damage is done outside the rooms i.e., in common places like corridors, bathrooms, recreation halls, mess etc., and the person(s) is/ are not identified, then double the cost will be recovered, floor wise or block wise or on the whole, as the case may be. Repetition of damage to the hostel property results in expulsion from the hostel.

Health Care

1. Any hosteller, who is not well, should report to the Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge/Resident tutor who shall make necessary arrangements.
2. If the sick person requires medical care from outside hospital at any time, a form meant for the same should be filled along with the signature of the patient if possible or by the accompanying person and submitted to Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge/Resident Tutor for making necessary arrangements.
3. If the situation warrants, admission to an outside hospital as inpatient, the same is to be reported to the Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge/Warden immediately.
4. If any sick hosteller requires special diet, the individual should inform the mess through the Deputy Warden/Hostel-in-charge concerned for making suitable provisions.

Other Facilities

1. English newspapers and magazines are provided in each hostel. Hostellers are requested to make best use of them.
2. There is a provision to subscribe to the newspapers/magazines to be delivered in the rooms. Hostel Tutor / Resident Tutor may be contacted for further details.
3. TV / audio systems are provided and they are open from 05.30 pm to 6.30 pm. so as to allow the hostellers to get back to their hostel room before the silence hour starts. The above TV timings would be very strictly observed without exception what so ever. However, during study holidays and exam period TVs shall not be operated.
4. STD coin booths are provided and hostellers are advised to make the best use of them.
5. A washerman collects the clothes for washing on Mondays and Thursdays. The hostellers can avail this opportunity.
6. The hostellers have to collect their mails from the office / letter stand.

Security System

Security system is provided in the campus to ensure safety and security for all in the campus. The security person will monitor the student’s movement and discipline inside the campus. If any untoward incident is noticed they will guide the students to be discipline. If not they will inform the higher authorities for necessary action. Students are asked to extend their full co-operation to maintain discipline in the campus.

Payment of Hostel Dues

1. Annual room rent plus miscellaneous charges and caution deposit (once) will be collected in the beginning of every year.
2. In addition, a mess deposit will be collected towards mess charges for the whole semester (6months) at the start of every semester.
3. The actual amount (mess) computed by dividing system at the end of every semester will be adjusted either by refunding or collecting, as the case may be.
4. In case students vacating the hostel before completion of the course, the amount will not be refunded.
